This article portrays Mitch McConnell's willingness to set up a fight in Congress with Democrats over the debt ceiling increase. McConnell and other GOP Senate leaders have expressed that they want concessions from the Democrats such as approval of the Keystone XL pipeline or changes to ACA. This fight happened only a few months ago and the GOP was split on how to fight the Democrats because the Tea Party did not agree with McConnell's midnight deal and ran a filibuster. This time, however the GOP is united in fighting Obama and set on making a deal over a clean raise. Democratic aide to Obama announced Obama is still unwilling to budge insisting that paying the bills is a duty that cannot become a political battleground. McConnell also reiterated several times this will not result in default
This entire fight connects to the constituition because Article I Section 8 states that all borrowing must come from congress. This clearly outlines that this is not Obama's fight and that if Democrats want a clean raise Reid and company will have to do it without papabear Barack. This is a separation of powers because if Obama (or any other Pres.) steps to far out into the fight he will be tempted to use executive order and because it protects against an overbearing executive. It is best that these powers be vested in the Legislative branch because they need to vote for what their constiuients want not what a cheif executive wants. My own opinion in this matter is consistant with McConnell because I believe racking up all this debt is irresponsable. Approval of the Keystone XL pipeline will decrease dependance on government spending which will in the long term will help solve this debt limit problem. I believe the GOP should refrain from ACA talks until we regain control of the Senate and/or WH.
